In one of our other sales and discussion articles we examined several data recovery companies to arrive at a decision as to which one was the best. Our unbiased conclusion was that File Finder is clearly superior. In this article we will be taking a direct look at Stellar data recovery.
Stellar data recovery is much the typical file and information recovery company. They offer a variety of products each aimed at either achieving a specific data recovery task or selling a program under that guise. Generally speaking Stellar offers the usual assortment of data recovery products. They have a program for Windows data recovery, Linux data recovery and Apple Macintosh data recovery. Unlike other companies that choose to divide their Windows products into several smaller packages based on the version of Windows one might be using Stellar takes a higher road by bundling all of the software needed for Windows data recovery into one package. Unfortunately the lowest price for this package is $108.00. Their Linux and Macintosh programs are equally expensive.
Stellar iPod and photo recovery
Stellar data recovery also offers programs designed for digital photo recovery and iPod recovery. Both of these are more moderately priced at $39.00 each. Digital photo recovery software can be better when designed as a separate package as Stellar does. But the Stellar data recovery program for retrieval of lost or damaged digital images does not effectively recover high end camera files. iPod recovery entails a simple search for audio files in the iPod format. Almost any data recovery program can already do this.
The difficulty of using Stellar data recovery on crashed hard drives
And another point to consider is that Stellar data recovery fails to mention that their programs will not recover files on a crashed hard drive unless connected by cable to a separate technician computer. This effectively limits the use of their programs by 50%. In fact our examination found that the only Stellar data recovery program that has any merit is their Macintosh data recovery package. In all other areas File Finder data recovery was far superior. When used for Windows data recovery File Finder was faster and located more deleted files. File Finder also does not require the assistance of a technician computer when dealing with a crashed hard drive. Although it is not of paramount importance we would be slow to dismiss the comparison factor of price. The File Finder data recovery system costs less than half that of the Windows recovery program offered by Stellar.
