When we speak of wanting to recover files from hard drive devices which have broken we are usually concerned because we have attempted to access that drive and failed. Computer hard drives fail for two specific reasons. The first is that the computer’s hard drive has suffered a physical malady. These problems include motors burning out and control boards overheating. While a physical crash of a computer hard drive was fairly common 10 years ago, today it is almost unheard of. When a hard drive fails today it is usually due to what is called a logic crash. A logic crash occurs when important files needed to instruct the hard drive have become damaged. These files both control the physical operation of the hard drive as well as direct the drive to the exact location of needed files.

When hard drive files have been damaged and as a consequence are no longer working the solution is to reload those files by means of reloading the entire computer operating system. Unfortunately when we reload Windows we also reformat and erase the contents of a hard drive. Obviously before we reload Windows we must recover any files of value from the hard drive. But if Windows will not let us enter the hard drive and if reloading Windows erases the files, what can we do? The solution is to use File Finder. File Finder will start your computer even if your current version of Windows has failed. File Finder runs from a CD/DVD and your computer’s microprocessor. File Finder never loads on to your computer’s hard drive. Once loaded File Finder will however give you complete access to all of the files on your hard drive. You’ll be enabled to copy all of those files to safe external storage.
