The steps you must follow to recover deleted photos are very similar to those used to find and recover any type of lost or deleted file. You begin by making a determination as to where your deleted file was at one time located. This can be your computer’s hard drive after download, an SD or memory card or actually both. If the process of downloading your cameras memory card was interrupted by a processing error or a power failure you could actually have a scenario where half of your photos are on your hard drive and the other half are still on your camera memory card.

Because most accidental photo deletion is from the memory card you should start recovery process there. Also, memory card storage is much smaller than hard drive size so the search will take a much smaller amount of time. You’ll need to load the special File Finder recovery disk and start File Finder to begin to recover deleted photos from memory card storage. To recover deleted photos from SD card storage the process is identical. Once File Finder has opened on your screen, select from the drop down menu the drive into which you have inserted your camera SD memory card. Click on find files and the program will quickly scan your entire memory card in a matter of seconds. A list of the recoverable files will appear. You may click any of these files and preview the picture before recovery. This allows you to avoid wasting time recovering and opening files you actually wanted to remain deleted. By clicking the bright blue File Finder help button advanced instructions are available.
