JPEGs are without doubt the most common image file type in existence. They allow for high resolution display of digital photographs without being too cumbersome in size. However, JPEG files are generally much larger than other image file formats such as GIFs. Perhaps this is why during transfer JPEG files are very susceptible to data loss. We recognize this data loss when we go to view a JPEG digital image as portions of the photographs being grayed out. Many times a JPEG file will not even open although the file name is intact. You don’t need a special program for JPEG recovery. All you need is File Finder. File Finder is an efficient general purpose file recovery program and one of its features is the ability to recognize and restore JPEG files.

To use File Finder for JPEG recovery, simply load the File Finder recovery disk which you created from the File Finder installation package. Next, choose from the options menu either a quick or complete scan of either your computer’s hard drive or your digital camera’s memory card. File Finder will take only a few minutes to perform a quick scan of either of these. Once the scan is complete File Finder will place on the recoverable list all of the files located on either of those drives. Usually, when scanning camera memory cards, all of the files presented are JPEG types. When scanning an entire computer hard drive there will be hundreds of different file extensions presented. Simply type .JPEG into the File Finder search box and instantly File Finder will sort through every recoverable file and shorten your list down to only the JPEG image files. You can now opt to recover all of these files for use the File Finder preview screen to look them over before deciding which files you would like to save.
